WHY I AM STARTING 21 DAY FIX EXTREME WITH PCOS & HASHIMOTO’S THYROIDITIS

UPDATED: 21 Day Fix Extreme: Day 1-Day 18

THE START OF SOMETHING NEW

Today is Day 1 of the 21 Day Fix Extreme program for me! Stay tuned to see my progress + results as I blast through TWO rounds {6 weeks} of this program with my PCOS and Hashimoto’s!

This post is about my backstory on WHY I am doing this program!

**If you decide that you want to join me (the more…the merrier!) I am in a group on Facebook sharing with & supporting others who are doing the program with me! I would love to connect with you on our journeys together! You can find information to connect with me at the bottom of this post! **

MY WEIGHT GAIN

Fall 2014 was full of different emotions for me. Getting married was the BEST thing that could have ever happened to me!! BUT — I will say that the PLANNING part of it had to for sure, HANDS DOWN, be the most stressful time of my life. Ever. I don’t know why, but it totally consumed me. With my PCOS + Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis this means that little indulgences here and there {AKA Stress Eating} led to HUGE weight gain. It’s safe to say that I reached the peak of my HIGHEST weight EVER right after Christmas. {I’m not going to get into specific numbers…but let’s just say I was about 33 pounds overweight for my height…AKA “technically obese.”)

THINGS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO WEIGHT GAIN WITH PCOS AND HASHIMOTO’S

Let’s just talk about the cycle of weight gain real quick when you are dealing with out of whack hormones.

Must Read:  Losing weight with PCOS, or, how I cured my PCOS through weight loss

It starts with the food we eat. Some form of dairy, grains, soy, or sugar are in almost everything that the AVERAGE American consumes on a daily basis. Heck, let’s face it: most of these things are what even comprise what most people think is “healthy.” The truth is, for various reasons I will talk about in a later post —-> all of these types of foods either VERY negatively affect our hormonal response – OR – cause very high spikes in our blood sugar contributing to our insulin resistance…in many cases, when we consume these things, it affects BOTH of those factors!

So the food we “can’t resist” throws our hormones out of balance and spikes our blood sugar. This tells slows down our metabolism, sends false signals to our brains that we need MORE of that food that is causing this whack-O cycle, sending false signals to our bodies to cling to our body fat with dear life, sending chemical signals to our brains making us feel dependent on food to bring us happiness, and generally NOT supporting a body system that is ready to use your extra “stored fat” as an energy source. Bring on more pounds.

It starts and ends with food. We can exercise all we want, but until we change something about our diet, the exercise won’t really matter as far as WEIGHT LOSS is concerned. {It’s still good to workout even if you aren’t losing weight though! It’s good for your heart, bones, strength, and can help your energy levels!}

THE BEGINNING OF LOSING MY STUBBORN POUNDS

I have been exercising and eating CLEAN all year long so far…but with NO budges on the scale and NO fitting into my smaller jeans! Isn’t that discouraging, if you find yourself on the same boat?

I stumbled across the book “It Starts With Food,” and it completely transformed my mind on everything I have ever thought about what foods were healthy or not healthy…and why. Two weeks ago I began eating by the “Whole30″ standard and have NOT worked out AT. ALL. and I have lost 8.4 pounds in the past 13 days. Again…must I say that I did NOT workout even once?? The first few days were difficult…I had sugar withdrawal headaches, cravings out of the wazoo, and I just wanted to take a nap. Once I got past the initial “detoxing” phase, I have had more energy than I ever had on a regular basis, wake up SUPER early and energized WITHOUT an alarm clock (I have NEVER been a morning person before this), and the pounds won’t keep shedding off! I don’t get paid to endorse any of this stuff, but I highly recommend checking outwww.whole30.com. It is amazing stuff for those of us with a hard time losing weight and with hormonal imbalances!

CONTINUING MY JOURNEY WITH THE 21 DAY FIX EXTREME AND SHAKEOLOGY

Anyone who knows me KNOWS I am lost without my chocolatey-superfood shake in the mornings, so the fact that I am continuing to drink Shakeology on a daily basis is no shocker. But today is the beginning of a new program for me. The 21 Day Fix Extreme.

This program is home based + includes a complete portion-control meal guide as well as 30 minute workouts from home {a different workout for each day of the week!}. It’s very simple and broken down so anyone can understand it, whether they have always eaten good or don’t know a single thing about healthy food + portions.

This program has an AWESOME nutrition plan that can help me continue my journey following Whole30 Standards + balancing my hormones with proper portion control + maximize weight loss with balanced hormones & the workouts that actually help my metabolism go faster thanks to my hormones being healthy!

Having PCOS and thyroid disease is hard. You are either in a healthy cycle or an unhealthy cycle, and unfortunately for us there really isn’t a middle ground. No “in-betweens” when it comes to how we feel, our hormones, and the efficiency our bodies function with.

I am ready to tackle this program and see how much MORE it can enhance my health + weight loss over the next few weeks!
